Ankle sprains are common. Injuries to the lateral ligament complex and syndesmosis are generally well understood. However, ankle sprains can result in injuries to the midfoot ligaments and their osseous attachments. This 60-minute webinar will unpack the relative sono-anatomy of midfoot ligaments, the sonographic technique to image them, normal and abnormal sonographic appearances, including how to classify ligament tears sonographically.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • The relative sono-anatomy of the midfoot ligaments will be unpacked in a systematic manner
  • The sonographic technique to image the midfoot ligaments will be demonstrated
  • Criteria for normal sonographic appearances of midfoot ligaments and sonographic classifications for ligament tears and avulsions
  • How to use ultrasound imaging to additionally identify injuries to muscles, tendons, retinacula, and nerves in the region of the midfoot

Why should you follow this webinar?
Ankle ligament anatomy can be overwhelming for clinicians. This webinar will simplify the ligament complexes of the ankle and foot and provide a systematic approach to your clinical and imaging assessment of ankle and foot ligaments. A timely diagnosis of midfoot ligament injuries and injuries to their surrounding structures is important to identify the extent of injury. This can guide patient management, as well as provide the patient with an estimate of their recovery time from their injury and guide a return to sport/play regime if required. Timely and appropriate patient management following midfoot injuries can prevent further injuries during rehabilitation time, joint instability, prolonged swelling, chronic pain, and disability.
