Practice and principles of ultrasound case-based clinical reasoning
During this three-part webinar, you will gain more insight into what clinical reasoning is and what you need to take into account during the diagnostic process (the theoretical framework). The theoretical framework is discussed on the basis of case discussions, in which ultrasound will be the imaging diagnostic modality. The three parts will be characterized by a recurring character of the theory. Different case histories are used (shoulder, knee and ankle).
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- Diagnostic strategies
- Cognitive bias
- Diagnostic tests (accuracy, pre- and post-test probabilities, diagnostic gain, observer variability)
- Efficacy of diagnostic testing
- Applying this theory during case discussions
Schedule & Topics
Part 1: Shoulder & principles of clinical reasoningTheory: Diagnostic strategies, cognitive bias, diagnostic tests (accuracy, pre- and post-test probabilities, diagnostic gain, observer variability), efficacy of diagnostic testing.
Case discussion about shoulder pain with focus on calcific tendinopathy in which the theory will be applied.
Part 2: Shoulder & clinical reasoning
Brief rehearsal of the theory discusses in part 1.
Case discussions: clinical reasoning with ultrasound features and management of frozen shoulder and humeral head fractures.
Part 3: Knee and Ankle & clinical reasoning
Brief rehearsal of the theory discusses in part 1.
Case discussions: clinical reasoning with ultrasound features and management of anterior cruciate ligament injury, meniscal injury, osteoarthritis, and ankle ligament injury.
