Ultrasound limitations in the evaluation of hamstring injuries

Ultrasound (US) has according to Tagliofico et al. (2018) several limitations in the evaluation of hamstring injuries because hamstrings are deep seated and not always clearly imaged. Similar to the adductor tendons, US has a low sensitivity in low-grade hamstring strains without significant fluid collections. For low-grade strains, MRI fluid-sensitive sequences are useful to depict fluid, edema, and hemorrhage.
