Musculoskeletal ultrasound examination of developmental dysplasia of the hip

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) examination within the first eight weeks of life is the gold standard for early screening of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). MSKUS examination is carried out in four stages:
1) search of optimal study window;
2) morphological assessment;
3) quantitative assessment;
4) staging.
On the basis of these parameters and age of the infant it is possible to obtain different angles that are indicative of the more or less advanced state of maturation of the development of the hip, from mature and well-centered joints up to dysplasia and dislocation as indicated in Graaf classification.

See the information below to learn more on DDH and MSKUS for screening purposes.
