Ultrasound-Guided Hydrodissection of Peripheral Nerves
Develop your ultrasound-guided nerve hydrodissection skills through a full day of hands-on cadaver and phantom training. Practice interventions targeting peripheral nerves of the upper and lower extremities, with emphasis on sonoanatomy, needle control, precision and safety. Expert guidance and repeated practice help refine your technique. Dedicated hydrodissection eLearning is included to prepare you for the practical training day.
What you'll learn
- Peripheral nerve sonoanatomy: Identify relevant nerves, fascial planes, anatomical landmarks and surrounding neurovascular structures.
- Ultrasound-guided needle control: Refine in-plane and out-of-plane techniques, maintaining continuous needle-tip visualization and controlled fluid injection.
- Upper extremity hydrodissection: Practice techniques targeting nerves at the wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulder, including the posterior interosseous nerve at the supinator and the proximal median nerve at the pronator teres.
- Lower extremity hydrodissection: Practice techniques targeting nerves in the foot, ankle, lower leg, thigh and hip, including the superficial peroneal nerve at the distal leg and ankle
- Safe and precise interventions: Learn to navigate around vulnerable structures, select appropriate needle trajectories and recognize potential procedural risks.
- Hands-on skill development: Build procedural confidence through repeated cadaver and phantom practice, individual feedback and expert supervision.

What's included
Pre-course eLearning
Your registration includes the SonoSkills online course Hydrodissection of Peripheral Nerve Entrapments, taught by Dr. Ezequiel Mailand.
This 4.5-hour online program covers peripheral nerve anatomy, sonoanatomy, common entrapment sites, pathology recognition and principles of ultrasound-guided hydrodissection.
Complete the eLearning before attending the hands-on day, allowing you to arrive well prepared and dedicate the entire practical session to developing your procedural skills.
One Full Day of Practical Training
The course is structured around a distal-to-proximal learning progression, beginning with fundamental needle-control exercises on phantoms and progressing to ultrasound-guided nerve interventions on human cadaveric specimens.
Throughout the day, experienced faculty provide individual guidance, practical feedback and opportunities for repetition.
Prerequisites for This Course
We strongly recommend that participants have foundational knowledge and practical experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound, particularly peripheral nerve sonoanatomy of the upper and lower extremities.
You should be comfortable operating an ultrasound system, identifying relevant anatomical structures and performing basic ultrasound-guided needle techniques.
If you have not yet developed these skills, we recommend the following preparation:
Online training: Study the Foundations of MSK Ultrasound eLearning to establish a solid theoretical understanding of ultrasound anatomy and scanning principles. Please note that online learning should be complemented by practical scanning experience.
Hands-on training: Attend the SonoSkills MSK Ultrasound Bootcamp to develop your scanning skills under expert supervision. Foundational eLearning is included in this course.
The hydrodissection-specific eLearning included with your registration provides additional preparation but does not replace foundational scanning and needle-guidance skills.
