Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions in the newborn.  If left undiagnosed, it has the potential to cause serious long-term morbidly requiring major surgical intervention. Ultrasound is the imaging modality of choice in the detection and monitoring of hip dysplasia in infants. This 60-minute webinar will explore the pathophysiology of DDH as well describe the ultrasound techniques utilized in screening and monitoring of the condition.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • The normal sonographic and x-ray appearance of the infant hip
  • The indications and a typical timing algorithm for the performance of a hip ultrasound
  • Optimal patient positioning and routine protocols for performing a high-quality, reproducible scan.
  • The diagnostic criteria for DDH, recognizing abnormal findings including both the Graf and Femoral Head Coverage methods.
  • How the ultrasound findings integrate with the overall clinical management and decision-making process for the patient.

Why should you follow this webinar?
Hip ultrasonography serves as the essential cornerstone for the detection and monitoring of infant hip dysplasia. Ensuring high-quality scans and precise interpretations is critical for effective care and treatment planning, underscoring the necessity of expertise in this field.
Suboptimal technique or interpretive errors can lead to incorrect diagnoses and significant, long-term consequences for the infant. This webinar directly addresses these challenges by strengthening participants' ability to accurately identify relevant anatomical landmarks and precisely measure vital diagnostic indices, such as the alpha angle, beta angle, and femoral head coverage. You will develop the confidence required to accurately differentiate between normal and abnormal appearances in clinical practice.
