Handheld MSK Ultrasound & POCUS
Handheld ultrasound is making point-of-care imaging increasingly accessible in everyday clinical practice. Rather than performing a comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound examination, Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is used to answer focused clinical questions directly at the bedside or during a patient consultation: Is there fluid? Is the tendon intact? Is there a tear or hematoma? Is there evidence of a major inflammatory process?
This intensive 2-day Handheld MSK Ultrasound & POCUS course provides clinicians with the practical skills needed to integrate handheld musculoskeletal ultrasound into their clinical assessment. The emphasis is on obtaining reliable images, recognizing key anatomical structures and identifying common and clinically relevant findings that can support immediate clinical decision-making.
What you'll learn
- Apply a structured scanning approach and optimize image quality on handheld ultrasound systems.
- Identify key MSK anatomy of the upper and lower extremities, including joint recesses, tendons, bursae and muscles
- Use POCUS to answer focused clinical questions related to joint effusion, tendon integrity, bursitis, muscle injury and other common MSK presentations.
- Recognize common ultrasound findings such as fluid collections, tendon abnormalities, tears, hematomas and signs of inflammation.
- Integrate handheld ultrasound findings with the history and physical examination to support clinical decision-making.
- Understand the capabilities, limitations and appropriate clinical scope of handheld MSK ultrasound and POCUS.

About this course
Why you should attend?
Handheld ultrasound can provide valuable information at the point of care, without the need for a full diagnostic ultrasound examination. This course teaches you how to use that capability in a practical, clinically focused way.
The course has a strong hands-on focus, allowing you to spend substantial time scanning under the supervision of experienced MSK ultrasound instructors. You will practice on handheld ultrasound systems and learn how to obtain the best possible information from portable technology while recognizing its limitations.
