Clinical Muscle Ultrasound
This intensive two-day course takes you from the fundamentals of muscle ultrasound to the assessment of acute and chronic muscle pathology. Through focused lectures, live demonstrations, case-based learning and extensive hands-on scanning, you will develop a systematic approach to examining muscles and interpreting ultrasound findings in a clinical context.
What you'll learn
- Optimize ultrasound image acquisition for muscle assessment
- Recognize normal muscle sonoanatomy and architecture
- Perform systematic ultrasound examinations of major muscle groups
- Recognize and differentiate common acute muscle injuries
- Describe and classify muscle injuries using established classification systems
- Identify ultrasound features of chronic muscle pathology
- Integrate ultrasound findings with clinical information and injury mechanisms

Highlights
- Two intensive days dedicated entirely to muscle ultrasound, from scanning fundamentals to advanced clinical application.
- Case-based pattern recognition and injury classification, combining injury mechanisms, ultrasound clips and structured interpretation.
- From injury to recovery: connect ultrasound findings with connective tissue repair and return-to-play considerations.
Why take this course?
Muscle injuries are common in sports and musculoskeletal practice, yet ultrasound assessment of muscle is often reduced to a simple question: “Is there a tear or not?” This course takes you beyond that approach.
You will learn how to determine where an injury is located, which structures are involved, how extensive the injury is and what the ultrasound appearance may tell you about the injury and subsequent recovery. Particular attention is given to the myotendinous junction, fascia, muscle architecture and injury patterns that can easily be overlooked during a routine examination.
Most importantly, this is not a lecture-only course. Ultrasound anatomy and pathology are continuously translated into practical scanning sessions and clinical cases. You will repeatedly scan relevant muscle groups, review pathological examples and practise describing and classifying what you see—helping you build an approach that can be applied directly in clinical and sports medicine practice.
