Levent Özçakar, MD, is Professor of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Türkiye, where he completed both his medical degree and residency before being appointed Associate Professor in 2006 and Professor in 2012. His primary academic interests include musculoskeletal ultrasonography, scientific publishing, and thoracic outlet syndrome. An internationally recognized educator, he has organized numerous national and international ultrasound courses and has delivered invited lectures worldwide.
Professor Özçakar is the founder and president of several leading ultrasound organizations, including TURK-MUSCULUS, EURO-MUSCULUS, WORLD-MUSCULUS, TURK-MUS, the ISPRM Ultrasound Task Force (USPRM), the ESPRM Ultrasound Special Interest Group, and ISarcoPRM. He also serves as a visiting professor in the PhD program Advanced Technology in Rehabilitation and Sports at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and as an Honorary Visiting Professor at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
A prolific researcher and editor, Professor Özçakar has authored more than 650 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer for over 85 international scientific journals. He is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, has held senior editorial roles for several leading rehabilitation journals, and has edited multiple landmark textbooks on musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions in physical and rehabilitation medicine.
